Isotta Degli Atti

Isotta Degli Atti of Rimini, mistress and subsequent third wife of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, “Signore” of Rimini. Married Sigismondo in 1456 and died in 1470, three years after her husband.

Obverse: · D · ISOTTAE ARIMINEN · M · CCCCXLVI ·  Bust facing right; clothed, hair over a high frame, wearing veil fastened with jewel on top of forehead.

Reverse: The letters · ELEGIAE · surround a closed book.

Background:

Cast in 1446, one of several cast for Isotta in same period.

Diameter:
41.1 mm. Brassy bronze cast.
Evaluation:
Good patina. Small hole on top. Light wear. Likely original cast.
