Background:

Cast in 1504 showing influence of Giovanni Candida. A very young (10 years old) Francois of Angouleme. The motto of the future king: A salamander in the midst of the flames, whose tail forms a double loop evoking the cordelier of Louise of Savoy. The animal is accompanied by the motto “Notrisco al buono stingo el reo” (I eat the good [fire] and put out the bad).
