As is the case with most private collections having an online presence, it is ongoing and continues to evolve as the works are processed and posted to the site. The following is a preliminary assembly of the medals for which photography and background information has been completed. In the weeks and months ahead more pieces will be added, so please check back from time to time for updates.
The information provided with each of the medals is compiled from historical records originally accompanying each piece at time of acquisition by my father. In many cases, further information has either been added (or confirmed) in recent years through the consultation of various publications (noted in the Reference section for each medal). The most comprehensive sources of reference in our collection has been the volumes of A Corpus of Italian Medals of the Italian Renaissance Before Cellini — By George Francis Hill and Les Médailleurs Italiens des Quinzième Et Seizième Siècles — By Alfred Armand. Other sources are listed to aid in the identification/confirmation process should visitors possess other reference publications.
Disclaimer: The information contained on this private collection site is accurate to the best of our knowledge. Please let us know if you spot errors or discrepancies and we will take it under advisement for review. For the most part, the Evaluation comments included with each medal were made by my father and based on the information which came with each medal at time of acquisition. — A.D.
